“If it bleeds, it leads”.  I heard this in a mass comm class last year, and it stuck.  Going along with the same philosophy, people are prone to look at acts of violence.  For some reason, they grab our attention.  THis media is somewhat disturbing, from cbsnews.com.  The lead story is about a shooting at Nothern Illinios University, and the lead photo is this one.  Clearly and injured person being brought off by a stretcher. This photo, no not one of the worst I have ever seen, is a typical lead photo because it shows some sort of violence.  For some reaosn, we are attracted to violence and it makes good news. This is where the saying “if it bleeds, it leads comes from”.
